Sisters set their netball goals

When Amie Dusting coached Warrandyte Netball Club’s Under 15 (2) winter premiership, it was her first success.

On the same day, her elder sister, Nat, coached the Under 15 (1) team to a premiership…but it was her fifth success as a coach with the club.

Now the youngest of the Dusting sisters, Jess, is planning to take on a coaching role.

Sisters win netball premiership double

Two sisters have coached two Warrandyte Netball Club teams to premierships.

The Winter Doncaster and District Netball Association Grand Finals, held in August 2006, resulted in premierships for two Under 15 teams.

The coaches for the two successful teams were Warrandyte’s Dusting sisters, Nat and Amie.

Netballers in with a lot of chances

Warrandyte Netball Club sent 10 of a possible 15 teams into the Doncaster District winter finals this month.

Warrandyte ran 19 teams this season. Four of the five Under-13s, three of five Under-15s, two of three Under-17s and one of the two Open teams made it through, maintaining the club’s high standing in the district competition.

Netball’s high-flying Under-15s

Business is booming at Under-15 level at Warrandyte Netball Club. Forty-eight girls represent the club at this level in the Doncaster and District Saturday competition in the current winter season.

They make up five teams named traditionally after local native birds and animals and ranging across four sections.

Littlest of the littlies

Competition starts early at Warrandyte Netball Club, with girls as young as seven playing bottom-age Under-11s. And the cold and sometimes foggy conditions at nine o’clock on Saturday mornings do nothing to dampen their enthusiasm.

Warrandyte have four Under-11 teams in an age group which is generally short of numbers. The Doncaster and District Netball Association have only three sections at this level, which means Warrandyte players are sometimes drawn against their clubmates.

Age of the Under-13s

To say that netball is booming at Under-13 level in Warrandyte is quite an understatement.
Warrandyte Netball Club have no fewer than five Under-13 teams in the Doncaster and District
competition, which makes for a lot or intraclub as well as interclub rivalry.

Two of the Warrandyte teams – 13/l and U13/2 – play in Section 1 and two others (U13/4 and U13/5) are in Section 4, so it’s often a case of Warrandyte versus Warrandyte on Saturday mornings at the Templestowe Leisure Centre.

Netballers’ high five!

Warrandyte Netball Club might have imagined they had “peaked” by bringing home four premierships from this year’s Doncaster and District winter finals. But the best was yet to come.

On December 6 they went one better, winning five flags in the spring finals series.

Eleven of 19 Warrandyte teams reached the semi-finals and six made it through to the grand finals.

Goalden girls!

Warrandyte Netball Club have just completed their most successful season in recent memory.

Fourteen of the club’s 18 teams made the top four in the Doncaster and Districts Netball Association winter competition, 10 played in the preliminary finals, seven reached the grand finals and four brought home the ultimate prize.

Of the five Under-11 teams, who do not play finals, four finished in the top four, with the 11/4 Joeys – in their first season of netball – and 11/1 Blackbirds top of their sections.
