Netballers bring home two flags
Warrandyte Netball Club brought home two premierships with wins to the Under 13/2s and Open B Grade.
Two other teams Under 15/2 and Under 17/1 finished runners-up.
The Under 13/2 Sunbirds had a thrilling 19-17 win over Donvale Dingoes.
Coach Stephanie Natsis praised the work of the team’s defenders and said the goal shooters performed brilliantly when cool heads were needed.
“Our centre court worked so hard and tirelessly. It really was a wonderful team effort,” Natsis said.
The Open B Warrandyte Hawks defeated East Doncaster Jets 22-20 in another tight Grand Final.
The Hawks girls got off to a good start and led by four goals at quarter time.
East Doncaster rallied and scoring was even for most of the match.
“We were able to hold on to win in a close match in what was a great overall effort,” said coach, Lyn Dyason.
Under 15/2: Warrandyte Rosellas 18 lost to DYC Cougars 23. The team was Erika Dyason (coach), Rebekah Fall, Jasmine Woods, Kayla Mansour, Olivia Valbonesi, Caitlin Yule, Rachel McKernan, Kirsty Gates and Katrina Morris.
Under 17/1: Warrandyte Kangas 10 lost to East Doncaster Rebels 26.
The team was Leanne Sawers and Bronwyn Haines (coaches), Hannah Thornton, Jessica Winters, Akela Coutts, Gemma Lindsay-Knape, Natasha Foster-Zuluaga, Dayle Humphreys, Selene Foster-Zuluaga and Claudia McKeough.
